Tips
Heating
- Make sure you have fuel for your furnace or boiler (natural gas, oil, propane)
- Be sure to check that the power is on for your furnace.
- Run your unit before it’s actually needed to insure proper function.
- For the safety of you and your family it’s a great idea to have a carbon monoxide detector in your house.
Refrigeration
- Be sure not to place items in a manner that would block air flow through your evaporator.
- Make sure that your condenser coil is free of dirt and particles that would block air flow.
- Be sure to keep doors closed when access is not needed into walk in box or cooler.
- Make sure the thermometer is in working order, to keep you up to date with the temperature in box or cooler.
- If your unit doesn’t seem to be cooling like it use to don’t wait to the last minute to call for repair.
Air Conditioning
- Replace air filters every 3 months and in some cases even sooner.
- If Air handler is in your attic be sure you have an emergency drain pan with a float shut-off switch (to prevent wet ceiling damage).
- Make sure none of your a/c breakers are off at your electrical panel for your house.
- Before the cooling season starts turn on your air conditioning and make sure it works. So, you can be aware of any problems before the season starts.
- If you have any pets make sure they are not urinating on your outdoor condenser this will cut the life of your air conditioning unit almost in half.
- If your condenser is dirty and you haven’t gotten the coil cleaned in a while, you will want to do that soon. Dirty air conditioner coils will cause higher pressures which means less cooling and working harder which means higher electrical bills.
